project description

There is a growing crisis surrounding the need for mental health and primary health care in northern communities. This project is a partnership between Foundry and Carrier Sekani Family Services to offer these services along with a range of flexible spaces for youth programming.

Advisory sessions with local school children ranging from K-12 were conducted to better understand their needs and desires for the new facility. Overwhelmingly, the need for outdoor spaces and a connection to nature were recurring themes.

The building was carefully designed and sited to take maximum advantage of a heavily treed ravine at the rear of the site to provide protected social spaces.

Recognizing the importance of supporting local industry, the building is clad in rough-sawn fir and natural stone sourced from the region.
